HFO and The Hemophilia Center and OHSU jointly provide a week long summer camp for children with bleeding disorders and their siblings (ages 7-17). The camp provides a safe opportunity for children to experience the outdoors and enjoy camp activities such as swimming, archery, and campfires. The camp is often the highlight in a young person’s life as the meet others with a bleeding disorder for the first time. They also learn all about their bleeding disorder and are taught to self-infuse. Last year 80 children attended camp and 11 earned their Big Stick award for successfully self-infusing! Camp is staffed by counselors who have participated in previous camp programs and who are passionate about mentoring these youth.
